Recording a tutorial on my iPad Using QuickTime PlayerExample: I want to show my students how to use an iPad app. I want it to capture my voice and everything I tap on my iPad.
Connect your iPad to your teacher laptop. On your teacher laptop, use the Quicktime Player application and go to File > New > NEW MOVIE RECORDING. Make sure you choose your iPad as the camera display and NOT your built in camera on your laptop, or else you'll be recording yourself :) Press record and begin showing students whatever you needed to on your iPad. |
Tip When Recording
When doing an iPad recording your students can NOT see your hand movements and do NOT know where you're tapping/pressing. You need to be VERY descriptive when you speak so your students know where to look on their iPad. You can't just say "press this. then tap that button". They have NO CLUE what you're referring to because they can't see your hand. You'll need to learn to describe things prior to pressing. Saying thing like:
- SAY: Look at the top right corner of your screen. Press the blue button labeled save.
- DO NOT SAY: press save (WHY?!? they have no idea where save is...especially if there's a lot on the screen)
How do I use it? |
Common Problems |
Check out the video for instructions. All you need is your teacher iPad and Quicktime Player. My apologies, due to COVID-19, all I had with me at home was my son's personal iPad.

HELP! I did everything and all I see is myself on the screen!
1. Connect your iPad to your computer using the charging cable. 2. Open Quicktime Player on your teacher laptop 3. In Quicktime, choose: File > New MOVIE RECORDING (if you're using your iPad) 3. By default, you'll see yourself on the screen cause it's using your camera on your laptop. To change the camera source, look at the bottom middle, you'll see the red record button and the down arrow. Press that down arrow then choose the ios_XXXX that'll switch to your iPad and you won't see yourself.
